Literature Text
Today,
I wanted to pluck my ribs
from out my chest &
hang them about my house
like wind chimes-
dangled brutality;
a taunt for hungry wolves.
I didn’t grab for sharp objects,
I just wrote about it.
I never knew
I wanted to be a writer
until I lost something.
I still don’t know what that is-
(my mind, maybe.)
But words,
they fill gaps
that had no stories
to keep them
from hollowing out
in the first place.

These Words Aren't Pretty
These Words Aren't Pretty:
My verses are ugly and I admit to the fact
I can't use pretty language when I'm working with rap
Because the things that I write, are just the things that I feel
I ain't an Edgar Allan Poe or a Danielle Steel
And I'll be honest with you, I've got an envy inside
Because some poets got a flow that's as smooth as the tide
I read some stuff that they write, it's just so dope I ignite
Burning shame and my anger at the beautiful sight
And like birds of a feather, they're flocking together
These poets are the Gods and I'm nailed by the weather
But as the rain pours down, lightning resound;
I try to write pretty

"No, of my face. Yes, the poem."
"I was going to say, because your face is just stupid."

"Why did you write this?"
"I wrote it for you."

"You make me self conscious when you say things like that."

"I'm not worth this you know."
"What does that mean?"
"I am half a girl, and I deserve half a poem."
"That is not true, and you still haven't told me what you really thought about it."
"It's as broken and complex and half hearted as a sad song about the way you feel ink trail between your fingers like it's blood. There

Storybook Ending
Her ink-stained lips have kissed too many a forgotten page,
[dragon's blood
and phoenix down]
And her Prince Charming has yet to come,
[glass slippers
shattering like stars]
So all she can do is gaze out her tower window,
[enchanted forests
concealing poisoned apples]
Clutch that corroded and timeworn blade,
[cursed beasts
tearing down castle walls]
Toss her childhood fables to the waltzing of the moon,

This is so amazing. Personally, I love the first verse the best. The imagery you use about plucking out your ribs and turning them into wind chimes is incredible. And very, very beautiful. The lines about taunting the wolves with them was beautiful too. I just love the first verse so much.
I understand the feeling of wanting to tear out your insides, but writing about it instead, and I think that you've portrayed it absolutely stunningly. "My mind, maybe" written in brackets, a whole paragraph to itself is great. I love that it doesn't follow a form, and the way you write is fantastic.
Gah, I just love this whole piece. It's beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
