GUYSSS!  She has a biting problem!  Help! :(
She 'play bites', but it still hurts! Somehow she got a hold of my elbow this morning.

In this one you can sort of see her injuries and where her fur is growing back:

Found some shelter pictures of her so you guys can compare then and now:

Wow! She's gorgeous... I've been gone from DA for a long time and it was kinda freaky to log back in and have one of the most recent journals have my name in the title, but I'm glad it was a cat. I like cats.

I love the name Willow. :)
But I didn't name her.

Aww what a beauty! Congratulations! And yes, writers should always have cats. I've never been without! As for the biting, if it's play-biting, I think it's likely that she just doesn't realize that it's hurting you. Kittens do this a lot and you just have to train them not to bite as hard. When she does it, just make her stop. Hopefully she'll figure it out soon. :)

She's not a kitten. LOL
But I figure she is revering back because she never actually had a chance to be a kitten, you know? :)

Well no, but she's still young. And still adjusting. Which is the stage kittens are at when they do play-biting. :)

I just need to break her of it because I won't be able to bring people around her if she continues. ha

Yeah I know!
She seems really smart though, like someone trained her to only use a scratching post. She hasn't torn anything up and basically kind of keeps to herself a lot.
But we don't know anything about her background history. Only that she came to the shelter severely dehydrated and with a bad bite wound.

if you flinch when she bites that's why it hurts because her hunter vs prey instincts tell he to hold on tighter to stop her prey from escaping. try and keep your hand still and let her nibble, it'll stop hurting after a little while, teece likes to play bite too!

Yeah she is already looking better. :)
She hasn't bitten me all day. But her bites aren't serious, as they dont hurt or even last very long. It's just the thought that she does bite. I won't be able to bring kids around her if I can't break her of it.

I have a Siamese cat at home....then again he's not so much a cat as a Buick with fur. He was an incredibly aggressive and bitey kitten. After he was fixed he got fat and lazy... Now the only time he takes a swipe is when you are feeding him. Don't tell him I said this, cause if he knew he would try and smother me in my sleep... but I call him "Morbo the Corpulent One" behind his back.

You see her "cute little paws" when you look at the perfectly evolved killing appendages that are her claws. She suffers from no delusions of cuteness, so when she sees your (equally deadly) primate mitts coming for her she assumes you're looking for some shit, and like any good predator, she obliges... 'cause she also knows practice makes perfect. So try to remember, when she's biting you, she's doing the favor you asked for.

If you want a cuddle, keep your hands behind your back, and lead with your nose. That means "bond with me fellow killing machine" in her language, and she will oblige with the unbearably cute nuzzling you crave (you silly primate you). It wont hurt to find some toys for her to duke it out with too. Every good predator has a biting quota to fill every day after all. Think back to the last time you had a hot date and you'll see the truth in that too.

If all else fails, get a good squirt gun.

She doesn't like 'attack' me. lol She rolls over on her back and goes for me like a kitten would. But she is not a kitten and her teeth hurt. LOL I'll have to try the nuzzling you suggested. I wake up with her in my face, so it shouldn't be too hard. I had a male Siamese a few years back and he never bit anyone, so this is new. lol

Again, that's your primate cuteness misinterpretation. "Rolling on her back like a kitten" is actually a feline predator version of a land-mine. You are sucked in to coming near her when she can get you with all four paws *and* her teeth... very cute indeed.

Nuzzle! And procede with caution. This is not cupie doll, it's an apex predator (albeit a cute one).

She is really sweet though. lol
And my old Siamese use to get on his back and make me rub his belly all the time.
It's a trust thing because there belly is the most guarded part of them.
And for a cat to show you this, they are showing you there trust. :)

It's the most *well* gaurded part of the feline anatomy... you're never going to see a puma pounce on a gazelle back to back. The cat is actually showing you it's ready for anything.

NOSE!

It's not a debate. I'm a biologist. Yes they are cute. Yes they make excellent companions. The language they speak, however, is predator... you're a primate, you can speak it too.

She looked completely and utterly pathetic at the shelter.
Like she had given up on life. No one would give her the time of day because it said on her paperwork that she bites. Which she does do--but she has only done so here when playing and not as an aggressive attack. Yesterday I went to clean her litter box--had the scooper in my hand walking by her and her ears went back and she backed up as if I had hit her. I have to speak kindly to her and tell her she is okay quite often.

she's beautiful. maybe you should get her some feather toys on a stick and make it a point to use them to play with her. some cats become biters because they don't have anything else to play attack with and biting becomes a habit. between that and nose tapping, she should learn with patience. it's hard to know just how traumatized she was. some kitties bounce back after ill treatment, but some don't respond favorably to even loving treatment. good luck with your little girl.

I took her to my vet today.
He fell in love with her.
Says I have an amazing pet on my hands and that she was the best patient he'd had all day. lol
Anyway, I do have a mouse on a string that she enjoys, but half of the time simply ignores. haha

it should be a feather on a bouncy stick. it looks like it's flying and cats LOVE to catch flying things. And you MUST actively play with her. make the feather really fly all around.
